Susan Oakes Artist Bio

Susan is a native Long Islander (which is immediately apparent upon meeting her) who emigrated to South Florida about 18 years ago. She is married to a very tolerant and supportive husband with two grown children (and grandchildren!) who grew up with a geek for a mother. She is a freelance digital artist and instructor who draws from a diverse background of psychology (B.A.), business, (management) art and technology (teaching at Briarcliffe College in NY.) In addition to her freelance design work, she presently teaches Photoshop in the Corporate and Continuing Ed  program at Palm Beach State College and to many private students.

Having never been a person with merely one goal, one purpose, she has traveled a multifaceted educational and vocational road including degrees in Psychology and Graphic Design. She has eleven years of experience as a retail manager, moving on to freelance graphic design and then teaching photo imaging and design since 2001.

She has explored many paths to develop her talents and increase her marketability (a retailing management career, graduate courses in Business, a Graphic Design Program); in addition to her springboard of a B.A. in Psychology in a past life.

Although her road has taken many twists and turns, she has come to see that it is the journey itself that defines and transforms us, rather than the destination. Along the way, she has been influenced by family and friends, community groups and her seemingly unending pursuit of the academic life, both as a degree earning and non-matriculated student taking many studio art courses.

Her digital work has been displayed in many local exhibits including solo shows, and won several awards through such groups as Artists of Palm Beach County, Lighthouse Art Center and Wellington Art Society all of which she is an active member. See a complete list of juried exhibits here:
